Rabbi Search

The synagogue has hired Rabbi Shana Margolin, who will be joining the congregation on August 1, 2004.

Before coming to Montpelier, Rabbi Margolin was the rabbi for the Jewish Community Center in Belle Mead, New Jersey. She acted as both rabbi and cantor, was involved with teen activities and bar/bat mitzvah training. She was involved with tzadakah drives and provided a Jewish voice on many boards and panels.

Rabbi Margolin's rabbinic ordination is from the Reconstructionist College in Philadelphia in 1989. She has a Mast of Art degree in history from the University of Massachusetts. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of North Carolina. She also has clinical pastoral training and a certificate in clinical counseling.

Prior to her ordination, she worked (at various times) as a community organizer for the National Association of Southern Poor, as a paralegal and advocacy trainer at the Legal Aid Sociey in Richmond, Va., trained volunteers in community action and development in Philadelphia, was a cantor and Hebrew school faculty member at a congregation in Springfield, Pa., and was a student rabbi at a congregation in Bordontown, N.J.
