Tikkun Leil Shavuot (Zoom)

Sunday, May 16, 2021 5 Sivan 5781

8:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Shavuot.  All Jews, past and present, gather at Sinai to receive the powerful wisdom of the Torah.  The centuries-old conversation begins.

We at Beth Jacob will gather on Zoom to add our voices to that conversation in a Tikkun, a study of Torah in the broadest sense, meaning anything Jewish.

Yona Shahar will present insights on Ruth, Naomi and Tamar, all key to the lineage of King David. She will chant part of the Book of Ruth, traditionally read on Shavuot, and. Rabbi Shana Margolin will lead a discussion about the Ten Commandments, using ancient and modern commentaries. Barbara Johnson, a fount of knowledge about the Cochin Jews of India, will also present. And all of us will ask questions, provide thoughts, and take part in the dialogue that has enlivened Judaism for over 2000 years.

This year's Tikkun (meaning "repair" or "fixing"), our second virtual Tikkun Ley'l Shavuot, is scheduled for Sunday, May 16, from 8:30 - 11:00 p.m., on Zoom--though they traditionally last at least until midnight! We won't be able to share traditional dairy treats, e.g. blintzes or cheesecake, but feel free to indulge on your own while we're gathering.

We hope you'll join us! Shana, Yona & Barbara
