Our flagship program is offered in partnership with the Olam Chesed* Education Center of the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (JCOGS).  Serving students in 2nd-5th grades, our Tuesday Hebrew School emphasizes a joyous exploration of Jewish tradition, ritual, and celebration while building a vibrant, supportive community.

  • In person on Tuesday afternoon at Beth Jacob Synagogue during the fall, winter and spring
  • Virtually via Zoom on Tuesday afternoons when there is inclement weather
  • Weekly Hebrew language learning pods on Zoom with JCOGS
  • Shabbat celebrations shared with the whole Olam Chesed community in either Stowe or Montpelier

Pre b’nei mitzvah/Mitzvah programs

The Pre-Mitzvah program is designed for 6th graders and those students who may be of Mitzvah age (or even older!) but still need a bit more exposure to Jewish education and to acquire the foundational Hebrew and prayer skills that will be expected in their Mitzvah year. This program meets on Sunday morning from 10-12 and once a month on Saturday to experience the Shabbat morning service. Locations alternate between JCOGS in Stowe and Beth Jacob.

The JCOGS Mitzvah program for 7th graders takes students through the process of preparing for their individual mitzvah ceremonies including preparing them to lead the service, chant Torah, and deliver a d'var Torah. Concurrent with the Pre-Mitzvah program, this program meets on Sunday mornings from 10-12 and once a month on Saturday so students can participate in the Shabbat morning service.

To register your child for either Mitzvah program, please register here!

Alternatively, we can also recommend local tutors from our community for one-on-one preparation for a mitzvah ceremony.  Please reach out to programming@bethjacobvt.org for recommendations.

Teen program

Youth Group, self labeled "Jew Crew" is our program for teens through JCOGS. For interested Beth Jacob members, our synagogue covers the Youth Group program enrollment fee paid to JCOGS. For more information, contact Amy Rosenthal, mitzvah education teacher: amy.rosenthal@jcogs.org.
